Port Guichon Elementary highlights student connection and family engagement
Port Guichon Elementary says new student clubs, family breakfasts and more welcoming shared spaces helped build engagement during the 2025-26 school year.

Port Guichon Elementary School says it renewed its focus on connection, community involvement, student engagement and literacy during the 2025-26 school year after several years of leadership changes.
Students were asked what they wanted to see at the school and submitted proposals for clubs. A Makers Club and Builders Club drew nearly 80 students—about half the school population—to weekly lunchtime library sessions. Choir Club members also joined Delta Secondary students for after-school singing, an initiative the school says supported cross-grade connection and helped younger students prepare for high school.
The school held two Community Breakfasts, each attended by more than 90 families. Students in Delta Secondary’s Food Program prepared the food, while the events gave families and staff an informal opportunity to meet.
Staff also refreshed hallways, courtyards and common areas with more comfortable, student-centred furnishings. Principal Maggie Callander said the school has begun to notice a shift in the atmosphere and student sense of belonging.
Josh Campbell is set to arrive as principal in September. The school says it plans to continue exploring student voice, family connections and engagement initiatives.
