Ridge Meadows leaders and chamber respond to Canada-U.S. trade war
Local political figures and the Ridge Meadows Chamber are urging action and support for businesses after Canada-U.S. trade talks collapsed and new tariffs took effect.

Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge MP Marc Dalton is calling on Prime Minister Marc Carney to reconvene Parliament and explain what ended Canada-U.S. trade negotiations last Friday. Dalton said the ensuing 50 per cent U.S. tariffs on many Canadian goods threaten an economy heavily reliant on American trade and could jeopardize CUSMA.
Angie Rowell, who ran against Dalton as the Liberal candidate in the last federal election, supported Carney's decision to reject a deal that was not in Canada's long-term interest. She said Canadians should remain focused on workers, businesses and families likely to feel the effects first, while supporting local and Canadian businesses.
The Ridge Meadows Chamber said the new tariffs and uncertainty could place significant pressure on businesses that depend on cross-border trade and integrated supply chains. CEO Kristi Maier said stability and predictability are vital for businesses to invest and plan, and invited affected businesses to contact the chamber for support and advocacy.
