Maple Ridge rider raises funds for children’s cancer challenge
Whonnock resident Paul Stanley plans to ride 400 kilometres in August for the Great Cycle Challenge and has raised $2,400 so far this year.

Maple Ridge resident Paul Stanley is again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for children’s cancer. The Whonnock resident plans to ride 400 kilometres this month and has raised $2,400 so far this year.
Stanley has participated since 2017, riding 4,382 kilometres and inspiring $28,671 in donations over that time. He is serving as a Champion for the third consecutive year, helping promote the program and recruit riders.
Stanley, who says he was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and remains in treatment, said the challenge is open to riders of all levels because participants choose their own fundraising and distance goals. The challenge runs throughout August.
An average of 27 children are diagnosed with cancer each week in Canada, according to the article. Stanley is riding with the Whonnock Community Association team. Information, donations and team registration are available at greatcyclechallenge.ca.
