Seniors showcase their talents at Maple Ridge show
Forty-one seniors performed 21 acts at the second annual Talent Show at the Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre, held to mark National Seniors Day. The event celebrated older adults’ skills and creativity.

Dancers from a range of backgrounds, singers, comedians and other performers took the stage at the Maple Ridge Seniors Activity Centre for its second annual Talent Show, held to mark National Seniors Day. Forty-one seniors performed 21 acts, including comedy, solo and duet singing, flamenco and line dancing, a poetry slam, three-piece bands and a performance by a Mexican dancer.
The Ridge Meadows Seniors Society organized the show. Its executive director, Maria Perretta, said the event highlights the skills and passions of older adults. She said it gives seniors a chance to express themselves, inspire others and take centre stage in a celebration of creativity. The society hopes to challenge age-related stereotypes and remind people that talent and joy do not fade with age, but evolve, Perretta said. She hopes the show will continue well into the future, describing it as magical and inspiring.
This year marked the 15th anniversary of National Seniors Day, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Canada Pension Plan. National Seniors Day is observed every Oct. 1 to recognize the contributions older adults in Canada have made and continue to make to families, communities and society.
The Government of Canada lists several ways to thank older adults and show appreciation for their contributions: say thank you, run errands or help with chores, take a walk together, or post a message on the Seniors in Canada Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SeniorsinCanada/.
