Maple Ridge RCMP investigate graffiti at Golden Ears Provincial Park
Maple Ridge RCMP are investigating spray-painted rocks at Golden Ears Provincial Park that may have been intended as a memorial to a man who drowned in Gold Creek.

Maple Ridge RCMP are investigating a report of mischief after rocks in the natural environment at Golden Ears Provincial Park were spray-painted.
Police say witnesses believe the painting may have been intended as a memorial to a man who drowned in Gold Creek on Aug. 3. He fell into the water near Lower Falls while with family and friends, who were unable to save him. A video posted to social media shows painted rocks bearing an Aug. 4 date.
RCMP received a public report Aug. 17 about graffiti allegedly made by an unknown man. Police are working with BC Parks staff to identify those involved and say they are aware of images and videos circulating online.
Police expressed sympathy to the man’s family and friends but said vandalism in a protected area remains a criminal offence, can harm the environment, affect other visitors and create cleanup costs. Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue also urged visitors to obey barriers and signs and avoid swimming in pools near the falls because of slippery rocks and uncertain footing.
Anyone with information is asked to call Maple Ridge RCMP at 604-463-6251 and quote file 2026-15782.
