Maple Ridge council will consider two zoning amendment bylaws that would allow a future 52-unit apartment building and increase permitted density for a private hospital.

The proposals will be presented to the committee of the whole at 11 a.m. Sept. 1, then considered for first and additional readings at council’s 7 p.m. meeting Sept. 8. Both meetings are scheduled for council chambers at 11995 Haney Place.

Bylaw 8131-2026 applies to 12064 Fraser St. and 22481 Brown Ave. Its stated purpose is to enable a future six-storey apartment building with 52 market strata homes. Provincial legislation prohibits a public hearing for this bylaw, so the public cannot make verbal submissions or delegations on it at the meeting.

Bylaw 8132-2026 concerns 11982 Laity St. and would increase the density permitted for a private hospital. Council will consider waiving a public hearing. People who believe their property interests are affected may comment before that vote; if the hearing is waived, council will not accept further public input on the matter.

The bylaws and permits can be inspected at the Planning and Building Counter from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8. Staff reports, webcast access and meeting details are available at MapleRidge.ca/CouncilMeetings. Correspondence and the recorded meeting will form part of the public record.
