Maple Ridge cyclist Maggie Coles-Lyster named to Canada’s world championship team

Maple Ridge cyclist Maggie Coles-Lyster has been selected to represent Canada at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal this fall.

Cycling Canada announced its seven-member women’s elite team Aug. 26. Coles-Lyster, the 2026 national road race champion, recently won the Tour Down Under one-day event and recorded stage podiums at the Giro d’Italia Women and Tour of Britain.

She also earned Commonwealth Games track bronze and was Canada’s first junior world champion in track cycling.

Coles-Lyster said her iliac artery surgery last year had made this season a comeback year and the best of her career.

The championships run from Sept. 20 to 27, returning to Montreal 52 years after the city hosted the 1974 edition. Organizers expect 1,000 athletes from 80 countries, making it Montreal’s largest event since the 1976 Olympic Games.
