Créatrices d’images opens ACT Art Centre’s 2026–27 exhibition season
The ACT Art Gallery in Maple Ridge will present Vancouver artist Laurence Belzile’s solo exhibition from Sept. 12 to Nov. 7, featuring five large abstract paintings honouring influential women artists.

The ACT Art Gallery in Maple Ridge will open its 2026–27 exhibition season with Créatrices d’images, a solo exhibition by Vancouver-based artist Laurence Belzile. The show runs from Saturday, Sept. 12 to Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026.
The exhibition centres on five 54-by-76-inch abstract paintings dedicated to artists Betty Goodwin, Faith Ringgold, Georgia O’Keeffe, Françoise Sullivan and Marlene Dumas, whose work has influenced Belzile’s practice. Her paintings use bold colour and expressive brushwork to reinterpret elements of their techniques, and will be shown alongside reference materials and experimental works. Exhibition panels and printed promotional materials will be available in French and English in recognition of Belzile’s role in Vancouver’s francophone community.
A free opening reception is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. An interview-style conversation between Belzile and ACT Art Gallery curator Courtney Miller will begin at 2:30 p.m. The gallery is at The ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, B.C.
Miller, the gallery’s manager and curator, said the exhibition recognizes the five artists’ place in art history while giving visitors insight into the artists who shaped Belzile’s work. The gallery has also distributed an elementary school tour and workshop program based on the exhibition to teachers and other education practitioners in SD42.
