Fire prompts evacuation at Maple Ridge supportive housing facility
A fire in one unit at Garibaldi Ridge prompted an evacuation Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported and the cause remains undetermined.

A fire in a unit at the Garibaldi Ridge supportive housing facility prompted an evacuation Tuesday morning, Sept. 22. Maple Ridge Fire Rescue responded at about 10:30 a.m. with approximately 10 firefighters and found the unit filled with smoke.
Assistant fire chief Wade Perrett said there was burning material in the unit, but the cause had not been determined. No injuries were reported. About 30 people waited on the sidewalk along Burnett Street and were allowed back into the building at about 11:15 a.m.
The unit where the fire started will need to be cleaned, but remains habitable, Perrett said.
