Volker Park has reopened in Maple Ridge following an accessibility-focused upgrade that added an expanded playground, a water spray park, washrooms, a picnic shelter, tables, parking and more seating.

The park is near Laity View Elementary School on 123rd Avenue. The city said the project was shaped by community input and designed for visitors of all ages and abilities.

New features include paved pathways and barrier-free access routes, accessible washrooms, a disc swing, spinner, rubber play surfacing and inclusive activity panels. Provincial funding helped support the upgrade.

All existing trees will remain, while more shade trees are planned. Hydroseeding and tree planting will proceed after water restrictions end and fall rains return.

Maple Ridge will mark the reopening with an official opening, ribbon cutting and treats on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. Project information, engagement results and progress photos are available at Engage.MapleRidge.ca/VolkerPlayground.
