City to celebrate National Tree Day at upgraded Volker Park
Maple Ridge will host a National Tree Day event at Volker Park on Sept. 23, featuring tree planting, family activities and information on urban forestry initiatives.

The City of Maple Ridge is inviting residents to celebrate National Tree Day on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the newly upgraded Volker Park, 21131 123 Avenue. Residents of all ages can join neighbours, City staff and local organizations for activities highlighting trees, green spaces and the urban forest. The City encourages participants to walk or cycle where possible.
The event will include planting new trees and spring-flowering bulbs, crafts, face painting, a food truck, a pollinator plant giveaway and interactive displays. The City’s tree contractor will also offer bucket-truck rides, giving participants an aerial view of the park. Staff from Park Planning, Horticulture and Urban Forestry will be available to discuss their work planning, maintaining and protecting Maple Ridge’s green spaces.
Mayor Dan Ruimy said the recent upgrades to Volker Park provide a welcoming space for residents to gather, play and celebrate National Tree Day. He said the event offers residents a chance to learn about the urban forest and take part in planting trees to help prepare Maple Ridge for hotter summers, heavier rainfall and the effects of a changing climate.
The event supports the City’s work under its Urban Forest Management Plan and Resilient Future 2050 climate action plan. Adopted in July 2024, the Urban Forest Management Plan sets out a 20-year framework to protect, maintain and expand the urban forest. Resilient Future 2050 identifies 58 actions to reduce emissions, prepare for climate impacts and strengthen community resilience. Residents may also request a street tree for the boulevard in front of their property where site conditions permit.
