Maple Ridge completed 1,272 net new housing units in the first two years of the province’s Housing Target Order, leaving it 12 units short of the cumulative target of 1,284, according to the city’s latest progress report.

The report covers July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. It says the city completed 554 net new units in the second year and remains positioned to meet its five-year target of 3,954 net new units by June 30, 2029.

The province counts units once they are ready for occupancy and subtracts demolished homes from the total. Maple Ridge issued occupancy for 1,338 new units over the two-year period, resulting in the official net total of 1,272 after demolitions.

The city reported 240 approved development applications that were not yet ready for occupancy, representing 1,596 potential units. It also approved 466 rental units at rezoning and development-permit stages in the second year, including 123 below-market rental units.

Mayor Dan Ruimy said the city has streamlined approvals and planned growth around transit and infrastructure, but needs provincial and federal investment in services such as transit, schools, health care and child care. Maple Ridge’s 2026-2030 capital plan includes nearly $432 million for transportation, utilities, public safety and community facilities.
