Maple Ridge motel fire sends one person to hospital
One resident was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and nine people were displaced after a Tuesday-morning fire at a Maple Ridge motel property.

One person was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire Tuesday morning at the Maple Ridge Motel and Trailer Court.
Maple Ridge Fire and Rescue was called at 7:15 a.m. to the property at 21698 Lougheed Highway, where crews found a ground-level residential apartment unit on fire. Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze, but the unit sustained heavy fire damage.
Fire Chief Dave Samson said nine people were displaced. Power to the building was shut off, and occupants will not be allowed back until safety requirements are met.
Emergency Social Services volunteers are assisting residents, while the city’s building department assesses whether the building is safe for occupancy. Investigators began examining the cause of the fire Tuesday morning.
