New Maple Ridge elementary school to welcome students next week
Eric Langton Elementary students will enter a new school on Sept. 8, while demolition of the former building continues behind fencing at the active construction site.

Students at Eric Langton Elementary will enter their new school on Sept. 8, but the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District says demolition of the old facility remains under way and pedestrians should use caution near the site.
The former school is being methodically demolished behind fencing. Pedestrians can reach the school from Edge Street, 227th Street and the path from Hinch Crescent, but the district says the area remains an active construction site. Edge Street continues to serve heavy vehicles accessing two neighbouring construction projects and the demolition zone.
A new circular student pick-up and drop-off area for Eric Langton Elementary and Maple Ridge Child Care Society is accessible from 227 Street. Parking and drop-offs on Edge Street will not be permitted until further notice. Elementary staff can use a temporary lot accessed from 227 Street, while environmental school staff can use the James Best Centre lot reserved for them.
Two playgrounds are open: the refurbished playground west of the new school and another south of it. Construction of a synthetic field is expected to begin in early 2027. A grand-opening celebration is planned for Tuesday, Sept. 8.
