Maple Ridge RCMP warn of scam involving home pickup of bank and credit cards
Fraudsters posing as financial institution or credit-card company representatives are pressuring Maple Ridge residents to hand over cards at home, police say.

Maple Ridge RCMP are warning residents about a scam in which fraudsters arrange to collect bank or credit cards directly from victims’ homes.
Police say they have received multiple reports of callers posing as representatives of financial institutions or credit-card companies. The callers claim an account has been compromised and create urgency to persuade residents to hand over their cards.
Investigators say the fraudsters may use pressure tactics and refer to personal account information to make their claims appear legitimate. RCMP stress that legitimate financial institutions and credit-card companies will never send someone to a person’s home to collect bank cards, credit cards, cash or sensitive financial information.
Maple Ridge RCMP Cst. Avinesh Bali said fraud can arise anywhere and at any time. He urged residents to remain vigilant, take simple protective steps, report suspicious activity and check in with friends or family members who may be more susceptible.
Police advise anyone receiving such a call to hang up immediately. Those who believe they may have been targeted are encouraged to contact their financial institution and report the incident to police.
