A freight train collided with a pickup truck in Maple Ridge, B.C., on Wednesday afternoon, leaving one person dead and another in critical condition, authorities say. Local RCMP were called at about 2 p.m. to the 25700 block of Lougheed Highway, where officers found the badly damaged truck and its two occupants. Paramedics pronounced a woman dead at the scene, while a man was taken to hospital.
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and CPKC Police were notified. Mounties say the train operator is co-operating with the investigation. CPKC says none of its employees were injured and the freight train was moved away from the area Wednesday evening.
Maple Ridge RCMP said in a statement Thursday that officers had spoken with potential witnesses at the scene and were examining all possible factors. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment at 604-463-6251.
