Maple Ridge Tesla driver ticketed after alleged Highway 1 sleep
B.C. Highway Patrol issued a $368 ticket after witnesses reported and recorded a Tesla driver who appeared asleep near Mountain Highway in North Vancouver.

A 45-year-old Maple Ridge Tesla driver received a $368 ticket after allegedly sleeping behind the wheel on Highway 1 near Mountain Highway in North Vancouver.
B.C. Highway Patrol said two witnesses in the same vehicle reported the driver shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. The passenger recorded video from the passenger seat. Police said the witnesses’ description and other evidence allowed officers to locate the registered owner at her Maple Ridge home.
The owner matched the description of the suspected sleeping driver and was ticketed for driving without due care and attention, police said.
“Police will not debate the merits of self-driving technology with sleeping drivers,” B.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said. He said the practice is illegal in B.C. and that driver inattention is a major factor in serious and fatal collisions.
