Maple Ridge Salvation Army shelter to reopen Friday after fire
The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows building will resume serving shelter clients Friday evening after a fire displaced them to a nearby church.

The Salvation Army Ridge Meadows building in Maple Ridge is expected to reopen to shelter clients Friday afternoon and evening, following a fire earlier this week.
The Aug. 17 fire caused smoke, fire and other damage at the building near Lougheed Highway and 222nd Street. During the closure, shelter clients were moved across the highway to Ridge Church, where they slept on cots in the basement. Three meals a day have been served at The Hub in the church parking lot.
Spokesperson Amelia Norrie said clients would return to the shelter Friday night, while minor repairs could continue after the reopening. Other Salvation Army services have continued through its administration office at 23315 Dewdney Trunk Rd.
High-school back-to-school supplies will be available for pickup, while elementary-school packs are to be delivered in early September. Program information is available at ridgemeadowssa.ca.
