A Renaissance and Acadian music celebration is coming to Maple Ridge
The Maple Ridge Music Society opens its 45th concert season with Suzie LeBlanc and Friends performing Renaissance and Acadian music at Westacres on Oct. 10.

The Maple Ridge Music Society Concert Series is opening its 45th year with a celebration of Renaissance and Acadian music. Suzie LeBlanc and Friends will perform at Westacres in a chamber setting in the large music room on the 20-acre farm property near the centre of Maple Ridge. The concert, called “Tio la Modestine,” will feature music by John Dowland and Henry Purcell, Acadian folk songs and echoes of Pink Floyd, alongside words exploring love, distance and the ties that bring people together.
The performers are soprano Suzie LeBlanc, harpsichordist Alexander Weimann, violinist Chloe Meyers, and Gregoire Jeay on flute and percussion. LeBlanc is an internationally renowned Acadian soprano. She received the Order of Canada in 2015 and four honorary doctorates for her extensive performances of early music and her contribution to Acadian culture. In 2021, she received the Prix Éloize for the most distinguished artist outside Acadia. She began her career as a well-known performer and scholar of Baroque repertoire and has toured Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, the United States and South America with leading early music ensembles.
For more than four decades, the society has offered the community classical chamber music of the highest standard. The concert is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at 23575 124 Ave., Maple Ridge. A reception with light refreshments begins at 1 p.m. Admission is by a suggested donation of $35. To reserve a place, call 604-467-3162 or email mapleridgemusicsociety@gmail.com.
