Maple Ridge RCMP warn businesses and residents about counterfeit cash
Police say at least eight reports involving fake $50 and $100 notes have been made at businesses across Maple Ridge, with some merchants reporting financial losses.

Maple Ridge RCMP are warning businesses and residents after a recent increase in reports of counterfeit currency. Police say they have received at least eight reports of fake $50 and $100 bank notes being used at businesses across the city.
Most affected businesses identified the fraudulent notes and reported them to police, RCMP said. Some merchants accepted the counterfeit cash and suffered financial losses. Businesses that accept counterfeit bills will not be reimbursed, police added, while knowingly possessing or using counterfeit money is a criminal offence.
Maple Ridge RCMP Frontline Sgt. Daniel Rettenbacher said police want the public to recognize the recent fraud trend and take steps to protect themselves.
Police are urging business owners to ensure staff know the security features of Canadian bank notes and are trained to identify counterfeit currency. Businesses should also have clear cash-handling procedures. Customers are advised to use caution and verify bank notes when accepting or depositing cash.
