Volker Park reopens with expanded playground and new amenities
The upgraded Maple Ridge park near Laity View Elementary has added a spray park, accessible features, washrooms and picnic facilities; an official opening is Sept. 3.

Volker Park has reopened in Maple Ridge with an expanded playground, water spray park, washrooms, picnic shelter and tables, parking lot and additional seating. The park is near Laity View Elementary School on 123rd Avenue and was designed through community input for visitors of all ages and abilities.
Accessibility and inclusion features include paved paths, barrier-free routes to amenities, accessible washrooms, a disc swing, spinner, rubber play surfacing and inclusive play panels. Mayor Dan Ruimy said the investment will give children more ways to play and make it easier for neighbours and families to use outdoor space close to home.
The Volker Park Improvements Project was funded through the City’s 2026-2030 Capital Plan and British Columbia’s Growing Communities Fund. MLA Lisa Beare said it will provide nearby residents of all ages and abilities more opportunities to connect and cool off in warmer months.
Two engagement phases shaped the final design. Residents supported more features for children aged two to five and more swings, a west-side spray park, seating and picnic areas, tree protection and new planting. Existing trees will remain, with additional shade trees planned. Hydroseeding and planting will occur after water restrictions lift and fall rain returns. An official opening, including a ribbon cutting and treats, is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 3 p.m. Details are available at Engage.MapleRidge.ca/VolkerPlayground.
