The sole occupant of a Tesla was taken to hospital after a Friday crash in Maple Ridge involving the vehicle and a semi-truck cab.

The rescue call came just after noon for the collision at the west end of Haney Bypass near Callaghan Avenue. Maple Ridge RCMP attended at 12:15 p.m. and found that a northbound passenger vehicle on Haney Bypass had been attempting to turn west onto Callaghan Avenue when it was struck by a southbound semi-truck cab.

Assistant fire chief Gary Porter said the passenger side of the vehicle was hit. There was no entrapment, and the male occupant was able to leave the vehicle and walk before being taken to hospital by ambulance. The vehicle's airbags deployed.

BC EHS said it was called at 12:15 p.m. and sent an ambulance with primary care paramedics. One patient received care and was transported to hospital in stable condition. Firefighters placed cones along the eastbound lanes and temporarily diverted eastbound traffic onto Callaghan Avenue. The semi-truck cab driver was uninjured and remained at the scene, Porter said.
