Mike Murray seeks re-election to Maple Ridge school board
Trustee Mike Murray, who has served since 2011 and previously chaired the board, says student achievement, facilities planning and education funding are priorities.

The Maple Ridge school board race has gained another candidate seeking re-election. Mike Murray announced Friday, Sept. 4, that he will run again for school trustee.
Murray has been a trustee since 2011 and has also served as school board chair. He said he wants to continue working with fellow trustees and district staff to complete work started during the previous term.
His four priorities are improving student achievement, particularly literacy and numeracy; fully implementing the SD42 strategic plan through continuous improvement across the organization; updating and implementing the district’s facilities and capital plan; and continuing to seek additional government funding for public education, new schools, facility upgrades and direct support for students.
Murray said his time as a trustee has taught him a great deal and that he hopes constituents will allow him to use that experience. He said the role is challenging, particularly when insufficient resources require difficult decisions.
He said he values working with dedicated staff and trustee colleagues who listen to students, parents, staff, the community and one another in seeking consensus on most issues. Murray also said the district is recognized for innovation and has improved student achievement despite financial pressure.
Murray said he hopes the board’s efforts to secure additional resources will succeed, allowing the district to further improve learning environments and opportunities for students. With four incumbent trustees not seeking re-election, he said he looks forward to combining his institutional knowledge with the fresh ideas of new trustees.
