Maple Ridge RCMP target impaired driving and speeding over summer
Police removed 103 impaired drivers and 69 drivers travelling more than 40 km/h over the limit during the summer, and will continue roadside checks and speed enforcement this fall.

Maple Ridge RCMP said Sept. 1 that its Road Safety Target Team and frontline officers removed 103 impaired drivers from local roads over the three summer months. Officers also removed 69 drivers travelling more than 40 km/h above the speed limit, impounded 63 vehicles and issued 452 violation tickets.
Specialized Response Team Sgt. Joe Whalley said the enforcement was additional to officers’ investigative work and support for other specialized sections and units. He urged residents to plan ahead and drive responsibly over the long weekend, saying a serious or fatal injury collision is no way to end the summer.
Police will continue roadside impairment checks and proactive speed enforcement into the fall. Whalley said officers will patrol near schools when children return to class Tuesday, Sept. 8, and drivers should prepare for school zones to take effect. More road-safety and policing data are available through the Maple Ridge RCMP Community Safety Dashboard.
