Garbage collection to continue at Metro Vancouver parks during job action
Metro Vancouver says regional parks will remain open and garbage collection will continue during job action, with essential services, reservations and scheduled programs maintained.

Garbage collection at Metro Vancouver regional parks will continue during job action this weekend, Metro Vancouver Regional District says.
The Greater Vancouver Regional District Employees' Union said unionized workers would begin job action at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The union had said the action could affect garbage collection, trail repairs and immediate first aid at more than 20 regional parks.
Metro Vancouver said its essential-services agreement keeps garbage collection operating. It also said drinking water, wastewater treatment, solid-waste management, air-quality monitoring, park access and housing services would continue.
The district said all regional parks remain open, with safety and maintenance standards maintained, reservations honoured, and programs and events proceeding as scheduled. Parks mentioned as potentially affected include Grouse Mountain, Capilano River, Deas Island, Surrey Bend and Iona Beach.
Metro Vancouver said its offer includes wage increases of more than 10 per cent over three years and that it remains available for further mediated bargaining.
