Maple Ridge orphaned bear cub Radar featured in Critter Care sponsorship program
Radar, an orphaned bear cub found in downtown Maple Ridge, is thriving at a Langley wildlife facility and can be sponsored through Sept. 30.

Radar, an orphaned bear cub found in downtown Maple Ridge, is thriving at the Langley-based Critter Care Wildlife Society and is featured in its back-to-school sponsorship program. The organization, which raises and rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, took him in during April.
The male cub weighed eight pounds when he was found crying for his mother. He had gone onto residents’ porches and was seen following a person down the road. Residents near Lougheed Highway and 116th Avenue raised concerns and posted about the situation on social media. He was too small to survive in the wild without his mother.
Radar gained five pounds in his first two weeks at Critter Care. The society said he is often the first animal out when he smells food and enjoys exploring and playing with enrichment.
He will remain at the facility through the winter to grow, learn and build strength. If all goes according to plan, Radar will return to the wild in late spring 2027. People can sponsor Radar or another Critter Care animal before Sept. 30; donations support food, care and rehabilitation for young wildlife preparing to return to the wild.
