Maple Ridge voters to decide $393M in recreation borrowing
Three separate assent votes on Oct. 17 will ask Maple Ridge residents to authorize borrowing for recreation projects valued at up to $393 million combined.

Maple Ridge voters will be asked this fall to approve borrowing for three major recreation projects with a combined maximum value of $393 million.
The three separate assent-vote questions will appear during the Oct. 17, 2026 local general election. They concern a new Hammond Aquatics and Recreation Centre, the first phase of the Hammond Multi-Use Community Park and an expansion of the Albion Twin-Rink Arena.
The proposed borrowing limits are up to $227 million for the aquatic and recreation centre, $23 million for the park and $143 million for the arena expansion, each for terms of up to 25 years. A majority of valid votes cast is required for each question to pass, and each will be decided independently.
The vote authorizes borrowing, not construction contracts. If voters approve a question, the new council would still consider final adoption of the related loan authorization bylaw before detailed design, engagement, procurement planning and construction preparation could proceed. The city says it would continue seeking grants, sponsorships and partnerships to reduce borrowing.
Advance voting is scheduled for Oct. 7, 10, 14 and 15, with mail ballots available beginning Oct. 7. Voting information and applications are available at MapleRidge.ca/GoVote.
